Threads

What an AI social media manager can automate on Threads

An AI social media manager can schedule Threads posts, reply to replies on your posts, and comment on other people’s posts found by keyword, all through the official Threads API. It cannot answer DMs, because Threads has no messaging API.

Threads is the only platform where an app may reply to posts it found by keyword. The limits below were checked against Threads’ official documentation on 13 October 2026. A comparison with the other platforms is listed under Related.

Schedule Threads posts

A Threads post holds up to 500 characters. Longer text is split into a thread of connected parts. Each caption is checked for length on the server before it enters the queue.

Meta fetches each image from a public URL. The Threads time can differ from the Instagram or Facebook time for the same post. Voxpanda suggests time slots from your brand’s engagement history by hour and day, and uses platform defaults until the brand has 30 posts.

For each post, Voxpanda proposes 3 hooks from its hook bank ranked by your engagement. Each hook’s score comes from the engagement of posts that used it.

Replies on your Threads posts

Voxpanda receives replies and mentions through Threads webhooks. Each one is classified by sentiment and intent:

  • Spam or toxic replies are hidden and not answered.
  • Praise gets a short reply in your brand’s voice.
  • Questions and complaints are answered from your brand profile, knowledge base and saved owner answers.

A reply is escalated to you, if the answer is not in those sources. You receive it from a Voxpanda WhatsApp number with the question and an AI draft. Your answer is posted as the reply on Threads. The intent rules are described on the automatic reply page.

DMs

Threads has no DM API. No AI social media manager can read or answer Threads DMs through official channels. Voxpanda does not offer Threads DM replies.

Comments on other people’s posts

Threads allows a reply to another account’s post through reply_to_id, if the app holds the threads_keyword_search or threads_manage_mentions permission. Keyword search allows 2,200 queries per 24 hours per user, shared across every app that user has connected.

Voxpanda runs this as follows:

  1. You set keywords, excluded words, languages, excluded accounts and a daily cap for each brand.
  2. Every 30 minutes, Voxpanda searches by keyword. It uses at most 40% of the 2,200 daily queries, so other apps on your account keep their share.
  3. The AI scores each post from 0 to 1 for relevance to your brand. Only posts at 0.75 or higher are used.
  4. The draft comment answers or adds information to that post. It has no link and does not name your product, unless someone asks.

Safety limits apply on every account:

  • At most 30 comments per day per account, which you can lower.
  • At least 3 minutes between comments, plus a random delay.
  • No more than one comment per author every 7 days.
  • No two comments with text similarity above 0.8.
  • Automatic stop in crisis mode, or when more than 10% of replies to the brand’s comments are negative.

Every outgoing comment is logged with its relevance score and can be deleted in bulk. Comments go out automatically on autopilot levels, or wait for approval on lower levels. Outgoing comments are part of the Pro and Agency plans; Starter replies to mentions only. Plan details are on the pricing page.

How Voxpanda handles Threads

  • Official API only. Voxpanda does not use browser automation to post, reply or comment.
  • Approval first by default. Posts publish after you approve them. Replies go out automatically only at high confidence.
  • Control from WhatsApp. Send PAUSE to stop all publishing and outgoing comments for a brand, and RESUME to continue.

Connect a Threads account

  1. Add a brand in Voxpanda.
  2. Connect Threads and sign in to the Threads account.
  3. Approve the requested permissions: threads_basic, threads_content_publish, threads_manage_replies, threads_read_replies, threads_manage_insights, threads_keyword_search and threads_manage_mentions.

The Threads account must be public for reply and mention webhooks. Tokens are encrypted and never reach the browser. Each screen is shown in the guide to connect Threads.
