What an AI social media manager can automate on Facebook

An AI social media manager can publish and schedule posts on a Facebook Page, reply to comments on that Page, and answer Page messages within 24 hours of the user’s last message. It cannot comment on posts outside your Page.

These limits come from the official Facebook Pages API and Messenger Platform documentation, checked 13 October 2026. A comparison with the other platforms is listed under Related.

Publishing formats and limits

The Pages API publishes posts to a Facebook Page and accepts scheduled posts from 10 minutes to 30 days ahead. A Page post can hold 63,206 characters. Voxpanda keeps hashtags between 0 and 3 on Facebook.

Each post is created once and gets its own schedule per channel. You can move the Facebook time without changing the Instagram or Threads version. All times are stored in UTC and shown in your brand’s time zone. The calendar views are described on the post scheduler page.

Captions start from a hook bank that scores each hook by the engagement it earned for your brand. Hooks can be filtered by platform, including Facebook.

Comment replies

Voxpanda receives new comments on your Page through the feed webhook. Each comment is classified by sentiment and intent in one step:

  • Praise gets a short reply in your brand’s voice.
  • Questions and complaints are answered from your brand profile, knowledge base and saved owner answers.
  • A comment is escalated to you, if the answer is not in those sources.

Replies use the same language as the comment. Public replies never contain personal data, and questions that need it are moved to Messenger. The rules for each intent are on the comment and DM auto-reply page.

Messages and the 24-hour window

Page messages run on the Messenger Platform with these rules:

  1. The user must write first.
  2. An app can reply within 24 hours of the user’s last message.
  3. A reply written by a person can be sent for up to 7 days with the HUMAN_AGENT tag.
  4. The CONFIRMED_EVENT_UPDATE, ACCOUNT_UPDATE and POST_PURCHASE_UPDATE tags are no longer valid since 27 April 2026.

Voxpanda answers inside the 24-hour window, if the answer is in your sources. It keeps the last 10 messages of the conversation as context. Messages with buying or pricing intent are labeled as leads.

Questions the AI cannot answer go to you from a Voxpanda WhatsApp number, with a summary and an AI draft. Reply 1 to send the draft, 2 to ignore it, or type your own answer. Your answer is posted as the reply in Messenger, and Voxpanda asks whether to save it to the knowledge base. A saved answer lets the AI reply to the same question next time. Answers sent after 24 hours, but within 7 days, use the HUMAN_AGENT tag. Escalation details are on the WhatsApp alerts page.

Comments on other accounts

Facebook has no practical API path for commenting on posts outside your own Page. Voxpanda does not comment on other Pages’ posts. On Instagram, comments are allowed only where your brand is mentioned. Threads is the one platform where an AI social media manager can comment on posts found by keyword.

How Voxpanda handles Facebook

  • Official API only. No browser automation is used for posts, comments or messages. A browser automation finding can cause a Meta App Review rejection, and the customer’s account would carry the block.
  • Approval first by default. Posts publish after you approve them. Replies go out automatically only at high confidence, and the rest wait in a queue.
  • One failure stays contained. A limit or error on Facebook does not stop publishing on other platforms.
  • Crisis mode. A spike in negative comments triggers a WhatsApp alert, and scheduled promotional posts can be held until you release them.

Connect a Facebook Page

  1. Add a brand in Voxpanda.
  2. Connect Facebook and sign in with the account that manages the Page.
  3. Choose the Page and approve the requested permissions: pages_show_list, pages_manage_posts, pages_manage_engagement, pages_read_engagement, pages_messaging and read_insights.

Tokens are encrypted and never reach the browser. You receive a WhatsApp message with a reconnect link, if a token cannot be refreshed. Follow the Facebook Page connection guide for each screen.
